I really enjoyed that video, more so now that I've "exited" Phase 2 and am actively thrashing around in Phase 3. In my experience, his phases are spot on.
Dear Yi Xue. Thank you for your Substack! I had not thought what retirement planning might be from an immigrant's/newer-generation American viewpoint. I listened to the Dr. Riley TedTalk you recommended--we have some psychological changes to expect! Lol.
I am not yet in the unpaid phase of life, but have been planning for it and feel happy and excited about what I might be able contribute to the world once I have a free schedule. Is that Phase Four? Lol. May we both find our calling. Best wishes!
Oh boy, I entered retirement (sort of short of planning) almost two years ago, and to be honest, I find myself still wandering across the phases from time to time! :)
Good to have you (and other like-minded writers) to share this journey!
I may be a little ahead of you in the process, so please visit the "Let's Talk about Retirement" section of my Substack and let me know your thoughts and feelings, and questions are more than welcome!
Thanks for sharing the video, it’s very humorous and humbling, especially those guys’ self-deprecating as old coot, we need those people in our society to continue share their wisdoms after they retire and willing to help young or those who are lost. Looking forward to your next post about your experience of going through these phrases. Looks like you are very efficient, according to the speaker, you could be still vacationing.

Two years in, I am still wandering in and out of all phases lol
I hear that! Me too really. It’s funny how you can still go “on vacation” when you’re retired, but you can.

There are indeed days/moments that I feel like I am vacationing! :)
