Your description makes the drizzle and grey cloud less annoying and more acceptable. I am still adjusting myself when raining season starts.
I definitely agree with you that we value things more when we lose the possession of those things. I used to complain about California ever shinning sunshine, now I miss it greatly. Anyway, we need learn to adapt and love our new home.
Had I not known you are first generation immigrant, I would have thought this writer is native English speaker. You are very talented and have so much to offer to people around you!
Thank you for your kind words Aiping! I am still learning to love this lovely weather of ours and I am certainly still learning to be a better writer. In both cases I got a long way to go but I am enjoying the process. I am enjoying it even more when I have like-minded “comrades” to learn together!
I am so looking forward to summer this year, after this past rainy/winter season :). Things I miss from NY/NJ: Frankie Fed's Pizza, Einstein Bros. Bagel, Pastrami Queen's sandwiches, and the direct flights from EWR (to almost anywhere in the world) lol. It is ironic that we often realize the value of the things that are no longer in our possession.
Actually Portland has a variety of restaurants, not sure if you have tried those, a few of my favorite: Broder cafe(Scandinavian, try to avoid busy hrs), Luc lac Vietnamese, La bottega(Vancouver downtown). You know the pdx airport will be renovated, you can check “pdx next” for more details, there will be a lot more direct flights in near future.
Beautifully written :) it feels like just yesterday, not 10 years ago, that Dad and I first saw the sunset over Seattle on that cross country road trip. I'm glad you have been able to find solace in the dreary weather, and create your own moments of paradise.

Beautifully written and my family has been here 17 years after 10 years in CA, I still miss the sunshine in California but I like the summer here!

Loved it! Made me feel like walking through the meadow with the drizzle in my face.
